TOUR PLAN

Arrive Buenos Aires

Arrival in Buenos Aires by Qatar airways flight and check into our hotel for the night.  A small briefing would be held about the flight to the southern tip of the world after dinner.

Buenos Aires

This will be a free day for you to enjoy a city tour (optional) or just soak in the surroundings of our centrally located hotel.

Buenos Aires – Ushuaia (Cruise embarkation)

Proceed to the airport to board the flight to Ushuaia. Our flight time would be 3.5 hours and we will be flying parallel to the snow capped Andes mountain range. On Arrival in Ushuaia, we will enjoy a short orientation tour that will introduce us to the marine history of this small town. Later we will start the formalities of boarding the MS FRAM, an expedition cruise which will be our home for the next 10 days.

Sailing – Drake Passage

Named after Sir Francis Drake this stretch of water between South America and the Antarctic Peninsula has numerous myths and legends connected to it. The convergence of Pacific, Atlantic and Antarctic Sea’s cause a rough ride on water and those prone to sea sickness will have to take their pills on this day. However, the extraordinary seaworthiness of MS Fram ensures you a safe and comfortable passage and we encourage you to join our educational lectures en route. The experts on Antarctica marine life will brief you in the presentation rooms.

At Sea or a Late evening landing.

Depending on the weather we will make our first landing on the Antarctic Peninsula or also can make it the next day. The air gets crisper and colder once we have crossed the Antarctic convergence.

Antarctic Peninsula Landing – South Shetland Islands

Today the first sight of Antarctica will greet us as we get ready for a touchdown. Warm jacket’s and waterproof boot’s are included in our cruise price and we will need them to step out on the rafts that will take us to the mass of snow.

Landings on various Islands – Marine life

The calmer seas of Antarctica and a good weather will ensure that we have on an average 2 landings per day which will take us closer to the distinct marine animal life on the continent. Penguins, Seals and Humpback whales will make their presence felt and make sailing on these days the most exciting on the sea.

Sail back to Ushuaia – Drake Passage.

With our bow pointed north and unforgettable images and experiences in our souls, we are invited to gain a new understanding of the Antarctic.

The voyage from the Antarctic Peninsula to Ushuaia at the southern tip of Argentina is roughly 950 km (600 mi) or minimum 40 hours sailing time in good weather. During the voyage north, we will continue our lecture series and recap our experiences of Antarctica.
